Just back from a weekend at Sepang F1 Circuit. While Singapore had it’s F1, there were quite a few that attended both the Lynlex and TCC trackdays on the 21st and 22nd of September.
I did not post for the last trackday after the engine mounts, bumpsteer, and new tyres were installed. Even though I was not able to clock a better Personal Best at that day, I did match it, and had an easier time doing so given the car to be more firm on the ground and not up easily upset especially over the corner curbs. The lap time then was 2:55.
This weekend, the first track session I went for is the Lynlex night session from 7pm to 12am. Honestly, I found that Lynlex did a good job at organizing their event. Given the slightly higher price it was definitely worth it that there was free flow of food and drinks from their organized food truck vendors, and that you din’t need to fork out any deposits for the lap timer. I would say that the slight con was that the policing of track regulation was quite lacking and there were quite a number of times that there were cars evidently over 70kmh in the pitlanes with some bystanders needing to dodge away.
In the first 2 hours of Lynlex session, I managed to lower my personal best to first 2:53 and then a best of 2:50:89 with alot of room to spare. It was an easy drive and the S2000 was more stable overall. There were no sudden oversteers and even when the rear broke it was manageable.
Highlight of this session was I managed to shotgun with John in his EG6 K20 and I met a friendly MSF driver, E Qy (I think it’s his nickname), who was part of the pit crew for a pit mate. He was kind enough to take my car out to see whether there was any inherent issues, which there weren’t and he was absolutely glowing after clock a 2:44 and feeding back that it was all good. At least now I have a goal to catch!
For the second trackday, it was TCC on the 22nd from 12am to 6pm. It was hot. I believe that night trackdays are going to be my favored type from now on. After getting my tyre pressure in the range I liked due to the pressure keep rising due to the heat, I managed 2:50:07 without any major changes in the driving style.
I believe I will be able to break the 2:50s soon, however in the meantime, some additional maintenance would be needed on the S2000 as it’s time for the regular Singapore inspection.
